Frugal Living Today - Thankfulness

One of the Catch-22s about frugality is that some people take it to the extreme and spend every waking moment dwelling on it. It doesn’t take much these days for us to forget what we have in life.

All it takes to remind me of how fortunate I am is to turn on the news sometimes and I see that while I may complain from time to time about not having much money, there are millions of people who don’t have enough to eat, clothes to wear or in many cases don’t even have a home at all.

Last night I watched Larry King’s exclusive interview with Ingrid Betancourt, the Columbian Presidential nominee who was kidnapped and held hostage for several years by the Farc, in conditions that I would not even want to imagine. A seemingly stupid question yielded an amazing response from Betancourt. When King asked her if she hated the Farc, she said no. She said that if she ever made it out alive, she would leave the horrors of those 6+ years in the jungle and no longer dwell on them.

Ingrid Betancourt is one amazing woman

I set aside time each and every week to meditate on the small things in life that I may not always show appreciation for. Being thankful for what you have is important and I hope you will take some time today to think about what you are thankful for in your own life.
