Thrifty Ideas for Leftover Bread
I am addicted to bread.
As a result there never seems to be much of a shortage of the stuff around the house. Every once in a great while though, there are times when I might have some leftover bread, and rather than toss it out to the appreciative local wildlife I strive for ways to make the most use of it for my household first.
Here are a couple of my favorite frugal ideas for leftover bread: Homemade Croutons
Leftover bread can be cut into cubes and baked for fresh, homemade croutons in no time!
Toss cubed bread with olive oil, garlic salt, oregano and black pepper and bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes for.
Sweet Crumb Balls
Using leftover bread, make bread crumbs and moisten with an egg. Form the mixture into small balls and fry them in hot oil until golden brown. Sprinkle with cinnamon and powdered sugar for a can’t miss treat that your whole family will love.

ooh, sweet crumb balls! not only does it sound yummy, I think that is my new favorite expression!
“sweet crumb balls, did you see the size of that cake!”

Bread is one of the reasons why I love the PBS cooking show “Lydia’s Italy” so much. She focuses on food from all over Italy, but her Tuscan dishes are divine. Tuscan cooking is fabulous for finding uses for bread. Naturally, I don’t have a recipe to offer here…
I save the ‘end pieces’ in the freezer until I have enough to make some Sage Stuffing to go with my roasted chicken or turkey.
