Frugal Furniture Care

How about a few homemade wood furniture cleaning solutions?

  • A simple wood polish can be made by mixing one part lemon juice to two parts olive or vegetable oil.
  • An equally simple polish remover can be made by mixing equal parts vinegar and water, and rubbing it on with a soft cloth.
  • Rub mayo liberally on water rings left on wood and leave it to sit overnight.  The next day when you buff it out with a soft cloth, the ring should be gone.
  • Stuck drawers?  Run a bar of soap on the runners and it with slide smooth as silk!
  • Remove wax drippings from wooden furniture with a hair dryer set to medium heat.  As the wax begins to soften, wipe it away with a soft cloth.
