Frozen foods are among the most convenient of convenience foods, but we’re not just talking about expensive microwave meals anymore. Did you know that you can freeze a wide variety of items that are normally used fresh without any problems at all? It’s true and it is easier than you might think.

I’ve talked in the past about such organizations as Magic City Harvest, a group that collects unused food that will be otherwise thrown away in order to disperse it to people who need food. They work with many local supermarkets and restaurants in the Birmingham metro area as well as Jefferson County, Alabama.
In today’s news there is a story about the Hoover City School System and how they are now going to package uneaten lunch room meals to be distributed in a similar fashion to those in need. I can’t tell you how happy these sort of stories make me, especially given the number of horror stories in the news these days.
It is nice to know that some people really are good at their core.

The fine frugal folk at Festival of Frugality have done it again! It is hard to believe that we are already up to the 140th edition of the uber popular blog carnival extraordinaire (that’s a whole lotta frugal goin’ on!).
This week’s festival is hosted by FIRE Finance, who have themed it “The Frugal Quotes Edition” and yours truly has made the cut with my post called “Here’s My 3 Cents” . I do hope you will check out the Festival of Frugality and enjoy some of the insightful and intelligent frugal types that are a part of this and every frugal blog carnival.
Be sure to tell FIRE Finance how much you appreciate them hosting the festival this week while you’re there. It is a lot of work to put these things together and they have done an incredible job. Remember my video on Thankfulness?
Have a great Wednesday, everyone!

This is Part 3 in a series on Frugal Philosophy. Each of the posts in this category - past, present and future - can be found archived here.Nearly anyone will tell you that when you are young the last thing on your mind is the future. As you may expect, that isn’t exactly the case with me and it never was.
One of my earliest dreams as a child was to someday join the Peace Corps and to teach people in third world countries how to garden and grow their own crops (remember what I said a few days ago about gardening?). It is a dream that was never realized because when I graduated from high school and became an adult in the real world, other things took priority.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post I consider myself a bit of an environmentalist.
When I was much younger I even took part in my share of Greenpeace demonstrations and more than a few Earth Day celebrations and other environmental awareness causes. It was through my studies and work with environmental causes that led to my second frugal motivation - the earth itself.

The economy has created a new generation of people who strive to subscribe to the teachings of the Gospel of Frugality. While the new blood is a welcome addition to the large and ever-expanding frugal family I can’t help but find myself wondering about the motivations of these frugal babies and what their motivations, goals and objectives might be.
This week are are going to take a look at what motivates me into a frugal lifestyle.

Not only is today Friday, but it is also my 36th birthday and while I am taking it easy from most of my work I couldn’t let the end of the week come without a round of Friday Freebies for all of my frugal living folks!
Free Scott Tissue
We all have to use the stuff, so why not get it for free? How about a free roll of SCOTT Tissue from Walmart.com?
Free Seattle’s Best Coffee
Free coffee? You had better believe I am going to be all over this one! Seattle’s best is definitely good stuff and when it doesn’t cost me a single red cent it is even better!
Free Cascade All-in-1 and a BONUS
Okay, so most of you will jump my case for calling myself frugal and still using a dishwasher but when I have a huge sink full of dishes it really does save time and money to use it. This freebie comes complete with free dishwasher detergent and a Mr Clean Magic Eraser sample to boot. Jump on it while it lasts!
Have a great weekend, frugal folk!
