The Definitive Guide to Yard Sales for Profit - Part 1

One of the most enduring pieces of middle class society has to be the yard sale.  If you don’t live under a rock somewhere you have likely been to a few of them and probably even had one or two in your lifetime.  When you are clutter-bound and floundering under a sea of unused items, a yard sale can often be just the ticket out of your current state of disarray.

Why don’t more people have yard sales?  The reason I hear most often is that they are worried about things like getting a good turnout, pricing items for a yard sale, or simply that they don’t know where to begin.  It is with these questions and others in mind that I have created this definitive guide to yard sales in the hope that more people will realize just how easy it can be to get rid of things you no longer want or need and line your pockets with a little extra green at the same time.

For the next few days we are going to take a look at the ins and outs of the yard sale; the who, what, when, where and how.

WHO:  Am I a good candidate for a yard sale?
If you are wondering whether you should have a yard sale in the first place, here are a few points to ponder:

  • Do you have the time to have a yard sale?  Many people underestimate the time involved from sorting to planning, pricing to advertising, and none of that even includes the set up or break down on sale day.
  • Do you have the stuff for a yard sale?  If you are reading this I would venture to guess that you do.  If not, consider a community yard sale or just getting together with one or two local families.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the next installment of the Definitive Guide to Yard Sales for Profit!
