Funding The Rainy Day Savings Account

Published by michaelnolan at 8:31 am under tip of the day Edit This

Regardless of how much money we make, everyone wants to be able to put some money away for a “rainy day”.  Given the state of the economy over the past year (or longer) it has become harder and harder to find anything left over after bills are paid but I have found several ways to fund my rainy day savings account without affecting my budget.  None of these will make you rich by any stretch of the imagination but every penny you save now is a penny you will have later when you need it and no matter how you slice it, a hundred pennies will still equal a (devalued but still valuable) dollar.

Here are a few of the ways I add a few extra dollars to my own savings each month:

Cash Crate
I’ve been earning a little here and there from Cash Crate for over a year now, all from completing free offers and taking a few surveys.  If I had the time to devote to the program I could earn more but it doesn’t fall high enough on my priority list.  Still, it is nice to receive a small check once a month and that money goes directly into my savings account.

Inbox Dollars and Send Earnings
Both of these sites offers the same thing - you are paid to read advertising emails.  I have done the math, having been in the programs for quite some time and it generally equates to $.03 per email which isn’t a lot until you think about it the way I do.  You are going to inadvertently be forced to read through spam email anyway, so why not get paid to do it?  And once again, when you get that check it can go directly into savings and you will never miss the money.

If you do not already have an interest-earning savings account, that should become a priority for you.  There are plenty of good options out there including HSBC  who currently offers 3.50% APY for an online savings account.
