Put the Freeze to your Frugal Kitchen Items
Frozen foods are among the most convenient of convenience foods, but we’re not just talking about expensive microwave meals anymore. Did you know that you can freeze a wide variety of items that are normally used fresh without any problems at all? It’s true and it is easier than you might think.
Eggs
Does your local supermarket have a great price on eggs but you hesitate to buy an extra dozen or two because they will go bad before you use them? Buy, buy, buy! All you have to do is crack all of the eggs into a bowl and whisk them together. Pour the blended eggs into ice cube trays and freeze as you would regular ice cubes. Two frozen egg cubes equals one large egg when thawed.
Milk
Go ahead and get an extra gallon while it is on sale. Remove about a cup from the jug to allow for expansion and freeze it! When you’re ready to use it, just thaw in the refrigerator and shake it well.
Fresh Herbs
If you’re anything like I am, you have an abundance of fresh herbs right now. The problem is they will not stay fresh if you don’t use them. What do you do? Chop them, add to a clean ice cube tray and fill with water. Then add a couple of cubes to your favorite soups, stews or other cooked dishes for instant fresh flavor right out of your freezer.
