Keeping it Simple; The Art of Living What You Believe

Published by michaelnolan at 3:36 pm under tip of the day Edit This

A recent post I made has brought a few nay-sayers out of the woodwork.  In fact, more than one of them have been bordering on rude.  To those people I say WELCOME.  I enjoy and encourage people sharing their beliefs and ideas with me even when those beliefs and ideas do not parallel with my own.

This web site started as a place for me to share frugal tips, money saving recipes and other ideas for people who are interested in saving money by living a frugal lifestyle.  It was not created to preach, nor was it intended as a way to create converts.

This is a resource and nothing more.

Because I am the originator and the sole author of the posts contained here, I alone am responsible for the content and I do not make a single apology for a single word that has been shared herein.  It is your option to read Frugal Living Today and share it, or to look on it, decided it isn’t for you and move on.I live my frugality not because I have to - thankfully I am blessed with no longer being forced into frugality - but because it feels right to me.

I was a child of the Eighties when everything was “Me! Me! Me!” and have worked hard throughout my life to break myself of that role.  In other words, I don’t live this way because I have to, I live it because it is what I believe.

Frugal living is not for everyone and hopefully this economic situation will not force the hands of people who don’t want to live their lives this way.  Unfortunately with unemployment on the rise and the economy in a tailspin I believe that my readership will continue to grow (as it has in recent weeks) because more folks are forced into finding ways to pinch pennies and save as much money as possible.

You are charming and well mannered, saying WELCOME to people who are rude – but their attitude is indicative of what fear can do to people. These people are afraid of what is happening to the economy and how it will affect them, and you are reminding them that we should all take control of our lives and live a more frugal life! I say thanks to you are in order!

I was a child of the 80’s also, I think there was a lot of me, me, me there, however; I started seeing worse in my kids, a sense of entitlement. I worked for ME, but my kids just expected everything without working.

I have since slowed things down, not just for me but also for my family. Life is our own journey, and you don’t have to fit in with everyone else, and that is OK. There will always be people there to criticize you on the side lines, but you are the one who has to live with what you do or become, not them. So in the end it really does not matter what they think.

I want to be able to live with the choices I made and I think I can do that!

If you thought my comments were “rude,” then I apologize. What the hell do I know any way — I write about music. So let me explain.

I think your blog has great value to people who need to curb their spending habits. If you’re going to offer advice and tips, I’m all for it. The only reason I looked at your blog was because it sounded interesting. And much of it is. What puts me off is reading this kind of stuff:

“It appears that this site will be getting a lot more hits in the near future but not because people want to learn frugal living, because they have no other choice.”

“Please tell me I wasn’t right.”

“Unfortunately with unemployment on the rise and the economy in a tailspin I believe that my readership will continue to grow.”

Whether it’s true or not is of no consequence. The arrogant tone of some of your posts doesn’t resonate with me. If you want to help, talking down to your readers and coming off like you have all the answers is a put-off. Just a little helpful criticism, that’s all.

But I’ll always read anything you post that offers practical advice.

stperry: When I told you that your comments are welcome, I truly meant it and I hope you took it that way.

The intent of this site is to help people, not to be a platform for me to appear better than anyone whatsoever. I understand that my tone doesn’t come across well to some readers but as another commenter has said that is the price we pay for communicating via text instead of by voice where my tone would have been more evident.

I am on no high horse, I assure you. My tone is more one of shared frustration than anything else.

And again, thank you for your comments.
