DIY Homemade Yogurt in a Crock Pot???
Let me start this entry with an admission: My name is Michael Nolan and I absolutely have an unhealthy addiction to yogurt. I can eat the stuff every day and never get sick of it.
Now even at the relatively low cost of store brand yogurt the stuff can run up a grocery bill if you aren’t careful and to be honest most of the store brand yogurt is just not up to par in my advanced yogurt palate! What to do, what to do?
Well it would seem that there’s a fantastic web site written by a woman with an unhealthy attachment to her crockpot. Her unhealthy addiction collided with mine when someone taught her to make homemade yogurt in her crockpot!
Please stop by her site, tell her I heart her and that you heart her too! I’m trying this out this weekend!!

You have been tagged for having a great blog with great sources and information. Read more at: http://upstatesc.today.com/2008/10/25/game-rules-and-my-picks/
I absolutely love your tips and freebies. Thanks for sharing with everyone.
I make my own yogurt too, and enjoyed the post. I use my gas oven instead of a crock pot - the pilot light keeps the inside of the oven at just the right temperature to culture the yogurt, and I don’t have to use any additional electricity. Looking forward to reading future posts!
Hummingbird: Wow, I never even thought of that! My crockpot uses about .02 of electricity per hour and I only ran it for 2.5 hours but it also didn’t thicken as much as I’d like so I am going to try to use my oven next time! Thanks for the tip!
Here’s another shoutout for using a gas oven. It works perfectly. The only problem is rmembering that the yogurt is in there. Overcooked yogurt is fine for baking, but not much else.
I’ve never made my own yogurt, but I’m a HUGE fan of organic Greek yogurt. It’s so delish! I’m going to check out that link to the crock pot yogurt. That’s amazing!
