Congress Goes Frugal?

In a time when it seems that the government couldn’t possibly imagine another way to misuse the taxpayers’ hard-earned money, when every major company CEO has their hand out begging for billion-dollar bailout crumbs, is it possible that there is a new breath of frugal air on the way to Washington D.C.?  The answer is yes!

Congressman Elect Jason Chaffetz of Utah won his new seat in a 100% volunteer-run campaign and arrived on Capitol Hill carrying a cot wrapped in duct tape.  He says he is going to work the same way he ran his campaign - frugally and responsibly.

Instead of renting an apartment in Washington, he’ll sleep in his office and shower in the House gym, returning to Utah on the weekends to spend time with his wife and three children.

Chaffetz has always lived a “pay as you go” lifestyle as he calls it, and his only debts are his mortgage and his car.  I look forward to watching this up-and-coming politician to see just how much of an impact he might be able to have on a wasteful failed government system.
