Simple Homemade Stain Removal Tips

Published by michaelnolan at 5:00 am under tip of the day Edit This

There is nothing more frustrating than spilling something and not know anything about stain removal, or just not having the right commercial product on hand to take care of the problem immediately.  What did we do before there were thousands of stain removal products on the market, back when we couldn’t shout it out?  Here are a few of my own personal stain removal tips to get you stain-free in no time using items you probably already have on hand.

Blood Stain Removal

Removing blood stains is not as difficult as you might imagine if you can catch the stain quickly.  In fact, the majority of the time all you need is cold water, ice and plain table salt.  First, rinse as much of the blood stain as possible in the sink using cold water (hot water will set the stain).  Then sprinkle salt on the stain to cover it and work it with your fingers for a few minutes, rinsing occasionally.  You should notice the stain begin to lift.  For small items you can even put them into a container with a lid, add some water and ice, cover and shake.  It actually works!

Ink Stain Removal

To remove ballpoint pen ink stains, spray the stain with hairspray and allow it to dry.  Rub it hard with a bar of soap and launder as usual.

Sweat Stain Removal

Many sweat stains can be easily removed by soaking the garments in warm water for an hour with a cup of vinegar added to the water.  Launder as usual.
