We’re going to take a mid-month break from Get It Free Month at Frugal Living Today to honor, respect and celebrate the Inauguration of the United States’ first African American President, Barack Obama.
The world is watching my friends, and never before has an incoming President had so many eyes upon him. Our economy is frightening and our troops remain in harm’s way. Today let us celebrate this historic moment and pause long enough to ensure that we remember where we were the day Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. I know where I will be. I’ll be sitting in front of my television with a box of tissues next to me.
Some have viewed our new President as somehow less adequate because of his seeming celebrity status but I can’t imagine how anyone could be more off the mark. Today one of the most well-known and well-liked men in history will be taking the oath of office before taking up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with his wife Michelle and their daughters Malia and Sasha. The entertainment world has embraced him with such names as Oprah Winfrey, Denzel Washington, Beyonce Knowles and many more standing up and making their voices be heard.
Congratulations, Mr. President.

I’ve given you two free audio books to download this month thus far (see Day 6 and Day 13), but today’s free download is a much more modern book than those two novels. Today’s free downloadable audiobook is by Seth Godin, a recognized name to anyone who colors themselves an entrepreneur in this technologically advanced age in which we live.
“Tribes” is an informative and inspirational book that talks about tribes - those groups of small and large numbers of people with a recognized leader and a common idea that binds them together. Seth talks about this phenomenon and how to use these tribes to make the most of your leadership skills.
To download Seth Godin’s “Tribes” for free at Audible.com, click here.

If you haven’t heard about the digital tv transition yet you must have been hiding under some rock because I’ve seen the commercial every 15 minutes of every day for the past six months.
In short, if you are still using a television with rabbit ears and only receiving local channels on tv, you have something to worry about because 31 days from today your tv isn’t going to see anything but snow. If you don’t want to spend big bucks on cable you don’t have to fret though; just get a digital converter box for your analog television and all will be well with the world when the transition takes place.
Again, you’re a little late to the party and the coupon program has reached its ceiling but don’t let that stop you from signing up to be eligible for a $40 off coupon for the converter box. As coupons that have already been issued expire, new coupons will be issued to customers on the waiting list. Fill out that application today and get on that list!

I bet as soon as you saw that headline, you though I was going to offer you one of those pie in the sky trips to Vegas, right? Wrong.
The odds are pretty good that you (or your spouse) have taken part in a friendly wager among friends at least once in your life. Who knows, maybe you enter the football pool at work even though you know you’ll never win. I mean, someone has to win right?
What if I told you there was a web site where you could bet on all kinds of sports events without ever spending a cent of your own money. That’s right - free gambling and you can start right now! The web site is called Cent Sports and just because it sounds too good to be true doesn’t mean it is. In fact, Cent Sports’ business model is brilliant by design. The site uses generated advertising revenue to give you a few cents to make your first wager. What you do with your bets is up to you, but you’re playing with someone else’s money so why not shoot for the moon?

The time is upon us once again my frugal friends. The time when Americans from coast to coast scramble to ensure we have all those receipts and W-2s in order, wondering what exemptions we might dream up to claim on this year’s taxes.
If you have collected your paperwork but don’t have the massive income to justify the use of a tax preparer or Certified Public Accountant to do the dirty deed for you, why not take advantage of the free edition of Turbo Tax that you can use online at no cost to you?
Bear in mind that the free edition is only for basic returns that use the 1040 form for the return so if yours will require more detailed paperwork than that you should get everything together as early as possible and call the IRS toll free hotline for help as early as you can, before the telephone lines get backed up for hours!

As of today we are officially two weeks into Get It Free Month and I hope you are taking advantage of these great free items!
Since the dawn of the digital photography age I have been an addict. I’ve got to admit that somehow the very idea that I could take as many photos as I wanted and not have to pay for them was pretty awesome. Now SONY is making an appealing offer to digital photography enthusiasts with a $10 FedEx Office Digital Photo Printing Gift Card by mail just for registering online to use the SONY Picture Station at any FedEx store.
It sounds complicated but I have to tell you that these kiosks are made with the most technologically deficient people in mind. My mother could use them and she can barely turn her computer on! With the SONY Picture Station you can edit and crop your photos and print everything from wallet size up to 8×10 in no time at all. I’ve registered for mine and I can’t wait to print some new photos for my office.
I’ll admit that for general use I don’t print many photos but as an amateur photographer I do tend to have some images that I want to see in full glossy glory, like the image in this post, for example, that hangs in my living room.
