Get It Free Month Day 1 - Open Office

Published by michaelnolan at 12:39 pm under tip of the day Edit This

I hereby dub January 2009 as Get It Free Month.  Every day this month I will share something different that you can get for free!

Open OfficeToday’s freebie is an open source software program that is not only free but it is incredibly versatile.  Open Office was created as an alternative to the prohibitively expensive Microsoft Office Suite and through the years it has become increasingly more useful than Excel, Word, Access and the other programs in the Microsoft suite.  Open Office is nowhere near as controlling or intrusive as Microsoft and there is a huge collaborative effort creating new extensions and discovering ways to improve the product.

Open Office was created by Sun Microsystems in 2000 but since that time nearly half a million people have had a hand in creating this amazing product.  If you’re looking for an alternative to the usual word processing programs like Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, I strongly recommend you download Open Office!
